The British School of Guangzhou (BSG) is a British Curriculum international school serving the expatriate community in Guangzhou, China for children aged 1 to 18 years (Toddler Class to Year 13).[1] It has become one of the main premium International Schools in Guangzhou.

Administration

The school is entirely British-owned and managed and run on a day-to-day basis by the school's principal.

The British School of Guangzhou was founded in 2005 by the British Schools Foundation. In August 2013, the school was acquired by Nord Anglia Education,[2] a family of 41 international schools worldwide[3] and listed on the New York Stock Exchange. The school is also a member of the Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA), accredited by the University of Cambridge Examinations board, registered with the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority in the UK (ISN: 1880003) and fully licensed by the Chinese authorities.

Curriculum

The school follows the English National Curriculum, which is one of three main internationally recognised curricula. Students who graduate from English national curriculum schools can choose to study in most universities worldwide without requiring to sit additional examinations. This is the benefit of the ENC to many international schools worldwide.

The English national curriculum is known for its structure, which outlines detailed teaching requirements including minimum teaching hours for subjects.

From September 2015, The British School of Guangzhou will be in collaboration with the world-renowned performing arts school, The Juilliard School, New York. The Nord Anglia-Juilliard Performing Arts Programme will bring 100 years of world-class music and drama curriculum to 10 Nord Anglia Education schools across the globe.

Student body

The school has a capacity of 1060 students. Students are all non-Chinese (PRC) passport holders coming from over 50 nationalities, giving it a strong international school community. The school maintains an enrolment policy limiting non-English speaking students. Many students at the school come from a native English speaking background from countries such as the UK, USA and Australia.
