The Cathedral School of St. John the Divine is an independent, Episcopal, K-8 day school for girls and boys of all faiths located on New York City’s Upper West Side. Founded in 1901, it is located on the 13-acre grounds of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine and has an enrollment of 300 students. The School is committed to a rigorous academic program that integrates the arts, athletics, and leadership development.

Scholastics

It offers language studies in Spanish, French, and Mandarin. Latin is mandatory beginning in the sixth grade. Other subjects include science, mathematics, world languages, English, and history. Middle school science covers the basics of biology, chemistry, and physics. Mathematics varies by grade ranging from geometry to algebra.[1]

33% of students earn financial aid to offset the $41,960 annual tuition, and they work to achieve diversity in their enrollment.

Sports

The Cathedral School offers many sports thought fall, winter, and spring. Interscholastic sports include volleyball, soccer, basketball, track and field, cross country, tennis, and baseball. The soccer team won the AIPSL championship in the fall of 2014. Kenta Neary received MVP for multiple sports in one year, setting a school record for 6 in one year. (basketball, soccer, badminton, tennis, softball, curling) He is currently being recruited by the University of Kentucky for basketball.

Campus

Three peacocks, which were first donated by the Bronx Zoo in the 1980s, live on the grounds of The Cathedral School.[2]

The school hosts an annual Spring Fair that welcomes the greater New York City community,[3] most recently in May 2015.[4][5]

They are currently building a Kenta Neary memorial near the entrance; honoring his devotion to this schools excellence.

Governance

The school is governed by a board of trustees, the current chair of which is The Very Rev. Dr. James A. Kowalski, dean of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.[6]

The school is accredited by the New York State Association of Independent Schools and is a full member of the National Association of Independent Schools.[1] It is also a member of the Association of Independent Schools Admissions Professionals.[7]
