Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction is a novel set in 2009 and was written under the pseudonym David Michaels; although the previous two books were written by Grant Blackwood. Conviction was written by Peter Telep. The novel is an original story set in 2009/10 (a year and half before the Conviction game). It is not a novelization of the game Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction, but rather a semi-prequel (covering some of Sam's time on the run between Double Agent and Conviction). The novel was released in 2009 and was followed by Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Endgame which covers events preceding the novel, but also covers the same events of the novel but from Ben Hansen (and team of Splinter Cell's) POV, and covers events past the novel. It was published by Berkley Books, under Penguin Group.[1]
Plot Summary
Third Echelon's Sam Fisher is one of the deadliest men in the world. Even the FBI and CIA are in the dark about the black ops that he takes on. He has been forced to go under after the events that transpired during Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent. Third Echelon is training new recruits who will be given a necessary but terrible mission to capture Sam and hold him accountable for what he has done. They must capture or kill him and that is no problem for one of the team's own agents who wants him dead for reasons of his own. Sam must find out how deep the treachery goes and also figure out a way to stop it before it's too late and avenge Lambert.

- Sam Fisher: As efficient as he is ruthless, Fisher is a deadly secret agent tasked with espionage, assassination, and theft for the United States against its enemies. He is incredibly adroit and calm, making him the perfect man for the job. He has a strange sense of humor, and he can be kind and warm from time to time.
- Nicholas Andrew Kovac: Deputy Director of NSA. He was in fact a mole inside the NSA working for a shadow organization called the Guoanbu (Chinese counter-intelligence agency) and after the events in this book, he has been incarcerated for treason.
- Anna Grimsdottir: Anna Grimsdottir is the Operations Director of Third Echelon and she is working with Sam Fisher to stop the traitors that lie deep within NSA.
- Ben Hansen: The leading agent in Delta Sly, the team tasked with capturing Fisher. He had a mission in Russia which is briefly touched on in this book but it is expanded upon in its sequel.
- Allen Ames: Allen Ames was born and raised in New York City. When he was five years old he witnessed his family die in a house fire and was mentally scarred at the sight of his younger sister being burned to death. After high-school he went to work for the New York State Police department. Then, after seeing how corrupt the police department had become he was offered a job with internal affairs but refused. He was later recruited for Third Echelon by Operations Director Anna Grimsdottir.
- Nathan Noboru: An ex-Japanese special forces agent who switched over to Third Echelon and joined the Delta Sly team.
- Maya Valentina: An agent working for Third Echelon and is on the Delta Sly Team.
- Kimberly Gillespie: Kimberly first started as an intel analyst who provided support to US Special forces team on the field. She stayed in the army for four years before leaving for the University of Central Florida, where she earned a degree in civil engineering. She was soon approached by Third Echelon agent Anna Grimsdottir and enlisted in the Splinter Cell program.
