CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System is a non-profit regional health care provider based in Tyler, Texas that operates six hospitals and 36 health clinics in East Texas.

History

In the early 1930s, the Sisters of The Holy Family of Nazareth came to Tyler, Texas from the Sacred Heart Province in Chicago to open Mother Frances Hospital. The hospital was named in honor of Frances Siedliska, the founder of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth. The hospital opened on March 18, 1937—one day ahead of schedule to care for victims of the New London School explosion.

In 1948, the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth completed the purchase of the hospital from the City of Tyler and in October 1965, Mother Frances Week was celebrated in Tyler, dedicating a new 140,000-square-foot (13,000 m²) wing. This $4.5 million wing added 110 new patient beds and a new cafeteria to the hospital.

In 1934, The Trinity Clinic began as The Bryant Clinic. It was founded by Dr. William Howard Bryant and Dr. Sidney W. Bradford. The Bryant Clinic received the first call for help in Tyler to treat the victims of the New London tragedy. In 1948, The Bryant Clinic changed its name to The Medical & Surgical Clinic and later, with the addition of two other Tyler-area medical practices, became Trinity Clinic. Today, Trinity Clinic is the area's biggest multi-specialty medical group, with over 300 providers representing 38 specialties in 36 clinic locations in East Texas.

In 1995, Mother Frances Hospital and Trinity Clinic merged, creating Trinity Mother Frances Health System, one of the first integrated health care systems in the United States. In 2007, Trinity Mother Frances Health System changed its name to Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals and Clinics.

In 2016, Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals and Clinics merged with CHRISTUS Health to create CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System.

CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital - Tyler

The system's flagship hospital, Mother Frances Hospital Tyler is a 404-bed acute care facility in Tyler, Texas. The hospital opened a day early on March 18, 1937 to care for the victims of the New London school explosion. The hospital includes emergency and trauma care, medical and surgical care, a Level III neonatal intensive care unit, maternal and child care and advanced neurosurgical, orthopedic and cardiac care. The Ornelas Tower was added in 2003 and includes the Louis and Peaches Owen Heart Hospital, the Surgery Center and 152 private patient rooms.

Louis and Peaches Owen Heart Hospital

The Louis and Peaches Owen Heart Hospital is the only heart hospital in the Tyler region and opened as a freestanding heart hospital in 2012, adjacent to CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital - Tyler. The LPOHH houses the Heart Valve Center, which is where patients meet with cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons to determine treatment options for heart valve disease.

CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances - Jacksonville is a 101,000 square-foot medical complex with private patient rooms in Jacksonville, Texas. The facility opened in 2001, includes a fitness center and offers the following services: cardiology, endocrinology, family medicine, gastroenterology, gynecology, hematology, internal medicine, lung nodule screening, nutrition services, orthopedics, pain medicine, pediatrics, podiatry, pulmanory medicine, physical therapy, sleep medicine, urology and women's health services.

CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances - Winnsboro is a 25-bed full service hospital and includes a 24-Hour emergency room in Winnsboro, Texas. The hospital has over 70 medical staff members and provides a wide range of medical services offered by CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic primary care physicians and visiting specialists. Tyler ContinueCARE Hospital is a separate acute care "hospital within a hospital" located on the fourth floor of CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital - Tyler. Since 2004, the facility has provided care to acutely ill patients with intensive and complex medical treatments.
