TruConnect, formally known as TruConnect Mobile, is an American mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that sells mobile hotspots and smartphones and 3G/4G LTE mobile data plans and prepaid cell phone talk & text plans. TruConnect was the first prepaid broadband provider in the U.S. to offer a pay-as-you-go, portable Wi-Fi service plans. [1] Headquartered in Los Angeles, CA, the company is one of the nation’s fastest growing providers of no-contract wireless voice, text, and data service.[2] The company is focused on bringing vital wireless technology to consumers by providing affordable, flexible data solutions to business professionals and casual Internet users through wireless and Lifeline services.

The company was founded by Kevin Hamilton in Westlake, CA. TruConnect has been providing wireless, residential and small business telecommunication services for more than 15 years under the Sage Telecom, Telscape Communications and TruConnect Mobile brands. [3]


History

In 2016, led a buyout of TSG Capital to acquire Telscape Communications which rebranded to TruConnect. Under their leadership, TruConnect expanded by completing an acquisition of Sage Telecom, Inc. a competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) focused on residential and small business consumers.

On August 4, 2014 D-Link and TruConnect partnered to offer internet on the go for mobile users. [4]

On April 29, 2015 Mobetize and TruConnect partnered to offer thousands of customers pre-paid card services include bill payment, global pre-paid airtime, and money transfers. [5]

On April 29, 2015 TruConnect emerged as one of the fastest-growing wireless companies in the United States according to data from the Universal Service Administrative Company. [6] [7]

On May 11, 2015 EY announced that Swapnil, Co-CEO, and Vikas, Co-CEO and Chairman Poonam, were finalists for the Entrepreneur of the Year 2015 Awards Program in the Greater Los Angeles Area.Recently Nida(Tanya) has bought the company at 70% stake and is the official owner of Truconnect .[8]

On May 21, 2015 TruConnect introduced its Forever DataSM mobile data solution through its Internet on the Go brand at Walmart. [9]

On June 18, 2015 TruConnect and OTT TV service YipTV formed an innovative joint-marketing agreement. [10]

On October 26, 2015 TruConnect announced its four new prepaid wireless plan options [11]

Wireless

TruConnect offers wireless services that include cell phones, 3G and 4G mobile hotspots, and wireless cell phone or data plans. [12] Their service is aimed at those who need cheap internet on-the-go and reliable devices. [13][14] Smartphone plans begin at $25 and each plan includes unlimited talk and text accompanied by a set amount of data depending on the plan option. [15] The wireless data plans are stand-alone monthly data offerings that cover a range of usage levels and start at $20 per month for 1 GB of data. [16] Wireless data plans can be paired with one of TruConnect’s mobile hotspots to provide a portable wifi connection for any wifi-enabled device including but not limited to smartphones, tablets, and laptops.

The company also offers data top-ups under their Forever Data℠ platform, a solution to provide wireless service without an expiration date as long as the customer remains active by using 1 MB of data every 60 days. [17]


Lifeline

The company is in partnership with the federal- and state-funded Lifeline program which offers discounted cell phone service.[18] The Lifeline Program provides reduced-cost or free home phone and cell phone services to eligible households. [19] In partnership with the Lifeline program, TruConnect is able to help consumers who might not otherwise have access to wireless service receive affordable cell phone plans, cell phones, and smartphones. Individuals who qualify through income status or current participation in public assistance programs can sign up for the Lifeline program through TruConnect’s website or by meeting with a local TruConnect Direct agent. [20] [21] A valid form of identification and proof of eligibility are all that is required. [22] As of May 2016, the company had 195,751 [23]California LifeLine subscribers. The number of California LifeLine subscribers peaked at 322,666 [24]in June 2015.
