The Hürriyet Daily News, formerly Hürriyet Daily News and Economic Review and Turkish Daily News, is the oldest current English-language daily in Turkey, founded in 1961. The paper was bought by the Doğan Media Group in 2001 and has been under the media group's flagship Hürriyet since 2006.[citation needed]

Ideology

Hürriyet Daily News takes a secular and liberal or center-left position on most political issues, in contrast to its two main competitors, Today's Zaman and the Daily Sabah, which is closely aligned with the Justice and Development Party of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, though Today's Zaman has been in ill repute with the Justice and Development Party since its links with the December 2013 corruption investigation that targeted several individuals close to then-Prime Minister Erdoğan.[citation needed]

Leadership

The current editor-in-chief is Murat Yetkin.[citation needed]

Columnists

The paper contains domestic, regional, and international news coverage, economic and cultural reporting, as well as regular opinion pieces from leading Turkish journalists and thinkers such as Mehmet Ali Birand,[1] Soner Çağaptay,[2] Nuray Mert,[3] Mustafa Akyol,[4] İlhan Tanir,[5] Burak Bekdil,[6] Sedat Ergin,[7] Semih İdiz,[8] and former editor David Judson.[9][10]

Access

The Daily News headquarters is based at the Doğan Medya Tower in Istanbul, with a satellite office in Ankara. It can be read online[11] or in paper format. The paper can be found in the major metropolitan areas of Turkey, such as Istanbul and Ankara, as well as along the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts. It can even be purchased in more remote places like Zonguldak.[citation needed]
