The Graduate College of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) was founded as the Division of Graduate Studies in 1964 by Nevada Southern University.[1] Prior to 1969, UNLV was known as Nevada Southern University. It was not until 1972 that the Division of Graduate Studies would become the Graduate College as it is known today.[2]

As of 2006, the current Dean is Mr. Ronald Smith who also works as a professor of sociology in addition to his role as an administrator.[3]

Academics

The Graduate College offers an array of degree programs ranging from accounting to water resources management.[4] However, in recent years, the Graduate College, like most institutions of higher education in Nevada, has faced a series of budget cuts.[5] Due to the effects of these cutbacks, the Graduate College has had to roll back some of its programs, especially ones with low enrollment.
