Brown soup or Ulava Charu is a fine delicacy[according to whom?] from the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. This particular dish is also very popular in Andhra Pradesh Guntur and Krishna districts. This is a soup made with Horse gram. In Telugu language, spoken locally, Ulava (singular)/Ulavalu (plural) means Horse gram, a legume with the botanical name Macrotyloma uniflorum and Charu or Chaaru means soup. It is a local delicacy served in all lavish parties. Expatriate Telugu people crave for this delicacy and never miss eating it when visiting their home in Andhra Pradesh. It is homemade, usually in villages, because the preparation is labor-intensive. However the ready-to-eat packaged Ulava Chaaru is readily available in all urban and rural food supply stores in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
