The United Arab Emirates national basketball team represents the United Arab Emirates in international basketball competitions and is controlled by United Arab Emirates Basketball Association.[2]

The UAE has qualified for more major international basketball tournaments than any other nation on the Arabian Peninsula except for Kuwait.

FIBA Asia Championship

  • best performance: 1997 : 5th
  • worst performance: 2007 : 16th

At the most recent event, the FIBA Asia Championship 2009 in Tianjin, China, the team finished 12th after qualifying for the eighth final round with an overtime victory over Indonesia in the first round.[3]

In 1997, the United Arab Emirates had its best performance in the championship, finishing in fifth place with a 4–3 record. The team beat traditional Asian powerhouse Chinese Taipei 78–62 in the fifth place game.

FIBA Asia Champions Cup

In 2008, United Arab Emirates club Al-Wasl finished third in the FIBA Asia Champions Cup, the first time that a UAE club had medaled at the championship.
