The University at Buffalo Libraries is the university library system of the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York. The library's collections includes some 3.8 million print volumes, as well as media, and special collections. The Libraries subscribe to some 350 research databases and 10,000 electronic journals.[2]
Notable collections include the George Kelley Paperback and Pulp Fiction Collection, the James Joyce Collection, the Love Canal Collections, and the Robert Graves Collection.[3]

History
In 1922, Ruth Bartholomew was appointed as the first University Librarian. The library was originally located in Foster Hall but was moved to larger quarters in the second floor of Hayes Hall.
In 1929, Thomas B. Lockwood (1873-1947) donated $500,000 to the University of Buffalo for the construction of a library building. In the spring of 1935, the library was moved to the newly constructed Lockwood Memorial Library building. Designed by noted Buffalo architect E.B. Green and built in classic Georgian architectural style, the building was an elegant, four-story structure located at the heart of the South Campus. In addition to providing funds for the building, Lockwood also donated his personal collection of rare books, establishing an impressive foundation for the new library.[4]
In 1937, Charles D. Abbott, Director of the University Libraries, establishes the "Poetry Project" collecting rare first editions of modern poetry. In 1964, the University Archives is established by UB President Clifford C. Furnas. On December 3, 1973, the Oscar A. Silverman Undergraduate Library opened.
On April 19, 1979, the new Lockwood Memorial Library was officially opened. Designed for the new campus in Amherst, the Lockwood Memorial Library name was to be placed on the new library in recognition of the original endowment established by Mr. Lockwood.[5] The original Lockwood Memorial Library, renamed Charles D. Abbott Hall / Health Sciences Library, was renovated and enlarged in 1983-1985.

Architecture & Planning Library
The Architecture & Planning Library is currently located on the 3rd Floor in the Health Sciences Library while Hayes Hall is being renovated.
Health Sciences Library
The Health Sciences Library is on the South Campus.
Law Library
The Charles B. Sears Law Library is located on the second through seventh floors of O'Brian Hall on the North Campus.
Libraries Annex
The Annex is located on Rensch Road across Sweet Home Road near the North Campus.
Lockwood Memorial Library
The Thomas B. Lockwood Memorial Library is on the North Campus and is a congressionally designated depository for U.S. Government documents. It also houses the Polish Collection in the Polish Room.
Music Library
The Music Library is located in Baird Hall on the North Campus.
Silverman Library
The Oscar A. Silverman Undergraduate Library is located in Capen Hall on the North Campus, occupying space in all floors except the fifth, with its entrance on the first floor. Located in a central location on the campus, Silverman features many important campus resources. Notably, the library is the only facility at the University at Buffalo that is open 24 hours each day during the fall and spring semesters, with hours shortened or the library closed only for major holidays. The ground floor is home to a large group study area, one of the largest on the campus. The first floor contains the offices and lounge of the University Honors College, classrooms, a seminar room, the library's print center, many computers, and circulation. The second floor contains subject librarians and the Multimedia Center. The third floor is home to the Science & Engineering Collection and the Map Collection, in addition to computers, study carrels, and a large silent study area. The University Archives are located on the fourth floor, open only during normal business hours. Near the Silverman Library are a cafe, located on the ground floor of Capen Hall, and an inter-campus bus stop.
The Poetry Collection
The Poetry Collection houses over 140,000 titles of Anglophone poetry including 6,600 broadsides as well as an extensive selection of little magazines, anthologies, criticism, reference books, ephemera and audio recordings, making it the largest poetry library of its kind in North America.
University Archives
The University Archives is in 420 Capen Hall on the North Campus. It collects the records of all academic departments at the University at Buffalo, all university and student publications, and pursues the private papers of administrators, faculty members, and other individuals closely associated with the University.
