Departments

The faculty presently houses three academic departments. They are Kinesiology, and Recreation and Leisure Studies and The School of Public Health and Health Systems (Formerly Health Studies and Gerontology). All three programs offer a 5-year co-op degree and a 4-year regular degree. The School of Public Health and Health systems and Kinesiology offer a Bachelor of Science, and a Bachelor of Arts is offered by Recreation and Leisure Studies.

Kinesiology

History

Kinesiology was founded as the department of Physical Education. Their original home was the Physical Activities Complex before moving to Burt Mathews Hall in the mid 1980s. The department moved away from the Physical education side and inc.

Growth

The department has continued to develop over the past two decades. It is one of the best kinesiology programs in Canada.[citation needed] Undergraduates have the opportunity to remain in a general program or pursue concentrations in Human Nutrition, Ergonomics or Pre-Health.[4] There are also several other streams an undergraduate can follow: physiology, biomechanics and sports medicine.
