Welcome to Infogalactic: the planetary knowledge core! We know you will contribute greatly. Please read the editors' guidelines. Have fun! Crew (talk) 05:34, 12 December 2016 (UTC)

Welcome

It's nice to have you on board. I'd definitely be interested in hearing more about what went down between you and the folks over at Wikipedia.--Tears of Ovid (talk) 19:46, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

@Tears of Ovid
What does your name mean?
How did you find me?
I've been contributing to Wikipedia since before I registered in 2007 but only this last year began "delving" into the confusing back end Wikipedia-ese. I was frustrated for months trying to improve their article on the Truther movement because it's not good at all. After spending so much energy debating their stupidity I stopped to read some of the rules they kept providing me and finally realized the entire system is rigged. That was August. I stopped trying to "fix" the misinformation being protected, rightly or wrongly, by the rigged "rules".
Then in Novemeber, this video happened: https://www.corbettreport.com/what-i-learned-from-the-propornot-propaganda-list/ Most of what happened is documented in the comments section there with links.
In that video he mentions the "James Corbett (journalist)" article draft I wrote that was rejected from Wikipedia so I posted it on RationalWiki where it was referenced by the "Prop Or Not" list referenced by The Washington Post "fake news" hysteria war-mongering propaganda. RationalWiki (a fun-ish community, but not as rational as they claim) has since revised it. I improved it, resubmitted it hoping for approval or helpful feedback but it really pissed off an asshole. Several of my efforts were butchered (and someone moved it to IG) and I was banished from editing "fringe and/or US political" content on Wikipedia for a year because I'm a "polite truther". You can read my (kangaroo court) trial here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/IncidentArchive940#Topic_ban_on_conspiracy_theory_related_pages_needed_for_JasonCarswell
They butchered the Lionel (radio personality) page. I'll keep them up here. I don't know anyone at IG or who they are, or even trust them. I do know they are as fast as Wikipedia (Wikispooks is very slow and in a different format) and by copying the WP library a year ago they don't have dead links (RationalWiki is not as broad as WP and in a different format).
It's clear that in addition to the "article" "discussion" "history" "edit" tabs at the top, they could have "expanded details" "fancruft" and/or "alternative histories/perspectives" etc, if not in the body under sub-sections. Wikipedia simply doesn't want anything but "official" mainstream media (propaganda) regarding politically sensitive material, under the guise of being a strict encyclopedia. They can have a lengthy article about Evel Knevel but not sensitive political issues.
I'll be keeping my "to do" list on my user page and get to it when I get to it. I'm bipolar so I may be very active or not for various periods. Or not. It's my curse.
Everything about my recent "drama" is there in those links. I really don't want to talk about that any more, as it's all there and I'm still sore, but I am happy to answer any other questions you might have. Also, perhaps you can point me to or tell me a bit more about InfoGalactic (I really don't like the name) and/or the people on it. I looked around for a community page, or even a to-do list like elsewhere.
~ JasonCarswell (talk) 20:45, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
Hi, my name is a reference to the Roman philosopher Ovid. I noticed that Crew had welcomed you on board and read a bit of your bio and I was just curious about what had brought you on board here, I'll read what you wrote above, thanks.--Tears of Ovid (talk) 21:00, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
As far as the InfoGalactic website, it was founded in late 2016 and is a complete fork of Wikipedia, the primary motivation behind the new website is Wikipedia's poor community, business model, and how the system can be gamed and used for bias against "non-mainstream American reporting" as you've mentioned above - I'm not very familiar with Mr. Beale though I know he and his family have a background in the technology business and the music industry (his father is a former CEO), so hopefully IG can live up to its aim to be a rival and successor to Wikipedia, or "To Wikipedia what Facebook is to MySpace" as the founder put it.--Tears of Ovid (talk) 21:09, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the info.
But why the tears?
My jaded heart is with Wikipedia and their mass audience. I haven't contributed much this month of sorrow. I will attempt to remember to update/sync the IG articles with WP's as I visit/edit/etc. I have wide and diverse interests but use WP as a reference more than contribute. I try to limit my contributions to areas of expertise, specific interests, or general housecleaning.
I am certainly no technical expert but I recommend creating some kind of code that allows IG to keep updating it's pages from Wikipedia until someone on IG actually edits it, thereby authentically deviating and forking it. Otherwise you'll just have outdated content and few will use it.
I look forward to participating in the forum, though I really don't know why it's not on this main site.
In particular, I'm interested in how typically non-Wikipedia material might be incorporated in articles, sub-sections, etc. ie. "fringe", "synthesis", "alt views", etc.
Today I happened to notice the notice. I won't always be so prompt or interactive.
~ JasonCarswell (talk) 22:22, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
Eh, the tears are just due to my fanciful notion that the modern world has made "love" and "art" ugly I suppose. I tend to be Quixotic. Can you explain to me what you mean about piniging? I'm not super-tech familiar with IG other than with Wiki Markup code.--Tears of Ovid (talk) 22:58, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
I got half way through Don Q and keep meaning to finish it. I thought it was funny when they said why is he talking so funny/strangely, when they all sounded strange to my 20/21th century eyes. Perhaps I should change my user name to Cyrano de Scaramouche. ~ JasonCarswell (talk) 23:10, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

A to-do list

With regards to a to-do list, see User:Crew/Articles in need of revision or any other article you think needs editing.

By all means, fix the James Corbett (journalist) article if you have a mind to.

Rectified

Check out the Roadmap and particularly the Seven Canons, linked from the main page. Legend has it Infogalactic was instigated by a Vox Day back in 2016. I must warn you: rumor has it he might still be around these parts but I won't confirm. The motives include eclipsing Wikipedia in the not distant future (as you can imply from the Roadmap), a crusade to save Western Civilization, conquering the galaxy, etc. Try an edit on a 9/11 page. Re Banners about Wiki, Forked and Original

I started thinking about this a while ago and am glad you brought it up.

  1. Currently we have a hard-coded thing in one of the skins, and there was some issue around rewrite rules that prevented us from getting the page URL or something so we could do a reverse lookup. I will look at it again this weekend since one of the volunteers fixed the rewrite rules stuff.
  2. At the moment, most of the pages are from Wikipedia, a small fraction are forked and an even smaller fraction are original.
  3. I was thinking of something in the database that could tell us if this page was original to IG (perhaps driven by a template in the page), was forked or was from Wiki (with the last being the default) which would require a new database field for the page table and some code in the Edit/Save code in PHP.

Your thoughts are welcome. There is a volunteer group who you might like to join. Send mail to rifleman. --Crew (talk) 02:19, 14 January 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing out the user page vs talk page distinction. -- Crew (talk) 05:19, 17 January 2017 (UTC)

Pound it

I'm diggin' the Bones and Phones, bro. Nice! ~ User:Activedecay

Thanks. I animate, design, and art direct. I'd like to do some for InfoGalactic icons, banners, templates, etc. I created my "Pixel DJ Soft Skull & Headphones" after a weekend rave-type campout where they (called themselves the "Renegades") had a terrible DJ Jolly Roger type logo so I made some better versions (which I never did get to share with them). If you like that you might like a couple of my old wallpapers before I got larger monitors. I could be persuaded to make other versions (ie. 4000x4000) perhaps even with custom words.

  • 2010-10 FireLotus+Dots+DJBuddhaful Chill Rays 1600x1600.png
  • 2010-01 DJ Tits + Stalker Girl 2880x900.png
  • 2009-05 Fire Lotus + HAL 9000 + Disco Ball Death Star 2560x1024.png
Also, FYI, I'm not in Skull & Bones or the Illuminati. As if. I'm fascinated by occult symbology now but when I designed my old logo with an eye's iris (because I'm a visual artist) and the Bones & Phones (simple story above) I knew a bit about symbology but I certainly wasn't thinking about "them" when I was designing it then. Everything is a symbol to some people. I don't put much into it. You can't make an "okay" hand sign or a dozen other common every day gestures without some folks thinking they're flashing signs. Sometimes cheese pizza is just cheese pizza. But the elite kakistocracy (“rule by the worst”) is full of pedophiles. ~ JasonCarswell (talk) 08:23, 26 January 2017 (UTC)

Editing category pages

You don't have to edit the category pages manually (I don't know if you know that). They will be populated automatically once Crew makes the necessary changes. - Whitebeard (talk) 19:28, 27 January 2017 (UTC)

Thanks. Good to know. I thought that was how it was on WP and assumed might be on IG but didn't know and didn't see it so I did it. I'm relieved to know I don't have to chase down that meta stuff. ~ JasonCarswell (talk) 01:49, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

"List of pedophile elites"

Hi, I've moved this to the user space for the time being due to this article needing to be reviewed for potential libel or original research - if you want to work on it it's over here, thanks.User:JasonCarswell/eliteslist--Tears of Ovid (talk) 18:37, 11 February 2017 (UTC)

Hey, no problem. As long as it does get reviewed eventually. I know it's a rough rough rough start. I will clean up all the references soon enough. I don't care so much about Pizzagate or Pedos affecting a few hundrend or thousand people, young or old when hundreds of thousands die from bombs. What I care about is the fact that it actually happens and the mainstream media sensationalizes other crap while elites get away with being vampires of society. I want to create legitimate lists for quick easy centralized reference for the public to reference easily. Please correct any mistakes but don't delete my list(s) because, so far as I can see, it's the only one(s) out there. ~ JasonCarswell (talk) 00:36, 12 February 2017 (UTC)
I added the "lists" section back to your userspace; I think it needs to be divided into articles separate from the "Pedophocracy" term.--Tears of Ovid (talk) 18:06, 22 February 2017 (UTC)

Sorry for yesterday

I've left an explanation at Infogalactic:Galactic_boardroom#Blocking_Outrage. I'll do what I can to ensure that this never happens again. --Idris (talk) 18:35, 8 March 2017 (UTC)

You should be able to import articles now

I noticed that you were copying articles from Wikipedia. To make it easier for you I have given you the ability to import them, I believe. Under Special pages down the bottom on the RHS. -- Crew (talk) 15:38, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

Thanks. Does it make a difference? Is there more stats/data/metadata that gets copied? Perhaps the images too?
I don't recall reading Froglich before. I still don't know you or anyone here very well. But Crew and Tears Of Ovid are the only names I recall on here and I'd love for you folks to weigh in on the Boardroom discussions, at your leisure. ~ JasonCarswell (talk)

@JasonCarswell: Sorry, Jason. I didn't mean to put that notice! I just want to know if someone will respond and talk to me if I chat. Sorry for the inconvenience! Kelli (talk) 17:53, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

Image issues

Q: Also, are all the image hosting bugs worked out? A: I believe so. -- Crew (talk) 22:15, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

You might get a kick out of the InfoGalactic banner I made for SaidIt... https://saidit.net/s/InfoGalactic/ It's a grayscale indexed PNG to save space so perhaps that's why it won't recognize it as a PNG to upload here. If anyone here cared or wanted it I could make it happen. ~ JasonCarswell (talk)
