The V8 Supercars Hall of Fame was instituted in 1999 with the first running of the V8 Supercars Championship Series, initially known as the Shell Championship Series. It was established to recognise the efforts of past champions and prominent figures within the sport. The initial inductees were five-time Australian Touring Car Champion Ian Geoghegan and four-time champion Allan Moffat. All of the drivers inducted have either been Australian Touring Car champions or multiple winners of the Bathurst 1000 race. No V8 Supercar champion has yet to be awarded with an induction. Two former drivers were inducted each year until 2002 when only one driver was inducted. No-one was inducted in 2003 with two drivers inducted in 2004. Since then there has only been one inductee each year. 2005 saw the controversial inclusion of an event instead of a driver, in the Adelaide 500, the traditional season opening event. The most recent inductee was former driver and current team owner Garry Rogers.[1]
