Valeria Valeryevna Lukyanova (Ukrainian: Вале́рія Вале́ріївна Лук'я́нова; Russian: Валерия Валерьевна Лукьянова; born August 23, 1992) is a Moldovan-born Ukrainian model and entertainer, notable for her resemblance to a Barbie doll, with several sources describing her as, among other handles, a "real-life Barbie doll" and "human Barbie".[6] To enhance the effect Lukyanova uses makeup and contact lenses over her naturally green eyes.[7] She has stated that she has had breast implants, but that the rest of her body is completely natural and slender due to daily gym workouts and a special diet.[7] She sometime has been compared to the "Human Ken Doll", Justin Jedlica.

Early life

Valeria Lukyanova was born on 23 August 1985 in Tiraspol, in what was then part of Moldavian SSR in the Soviet Union.[8][9] Her mother, Irina, worked for the military sector and her father was a builder who also worked part-time as a disc jockey.[10] As a child, Lukyanova had a very large doll collection, and she was intrigued by spirituality.[10][11] She has a bachelor's degree in architecture from Odessa State Academy of Constructions and Architecture.[2][12]

Career

In 2007 Lukyanova won the World Wide beauty contest "Miss Diamond Crown of the World".[8][13][14] There were about 300 contestants in the beauty pageant. Any said female could participate in this competition, and there was nothing in the rules forbidding plastic surgery and body modification.[15][16] After her victory, she had multiple photo sessions and interviews in the Russian media, some even including erotic photos.[17][18][19][20] Lukyanova developed a worldwide following for her Barbie doll-like appearance after she posted numerous photos and videos of herself on the web.[21] Her first famous interview and photos outside Russia were posted by Jezebel website, followed by a professional photosession in V by Sebastian Faena.[21]

Lukyanova is an instructor at the School of Out-of-Body Travel,[11] described as "an international school in which our instructors show students how to leave their physical body and travel in their spiritual body."[11] It has been reported her "spiritual name" is Amatue.[11][22]

She rose to prominence after reports of her "almost inhuman beauty" surfaced online. This led the media to describe her as a "human Barbie",[11] "real-life Barbie doll",[22] and "living Barbie".[2] She was the subject of the 2013 documentary film Space Barbie by Vice, which depicted her life.[22][23]

Media outlets have raised skepticism over Lukyanova's case. ABC News suggested that Lukyanova was no more than a hoax aided by the likes of Photoshop.[11] A Boston-based educator regarded Lukyanova as an example of the negative effects of media objectification.[24][25] To remove the Photoshop accusations, Lukyanova posted numerous videos on YouTube and appeared several times on the primary federal Russian TV channels.[12][26] For example, in June 2012 she gave a 40-minute interview on the TV-show "Live television" on "Russia-1" TV.[12] She also appeared in March 2013 on "Channel One Russia" in a program about the Chelyabinsk meteor.[27] Lukyanova has stated in magazines and on TV that she has never undergone plastic surgery, apart from an operation on her breasts.[12][28][29] She also denies that she removed any ribs to make her waist smaller.[30][31] Lukyanova blamed her enemies for altering her old photos in Photoshop.[25] As of March 2014, Lukyanova had 997,812 Facebook fans, 10,030 Twitter followers, over 30 million views on YouTube, and also, as of August 2013, there are 336,565 followers in the Russian social network VK.[32][33][34] She has over 100 songs in her repertoire, some of which she posted online.[25]

In 2013 Lukyanova participated in the documentary movie The Phase, which was posted on YouTube in 7 languages.[35] She is also composer as well as opera singer and already recorded two albums of New Age music style, "Sun in the Eyes" and "2013" with the name Amatue. [36] In 2012 Lukyanova wrote a book, "Astral Travel Amatue", about her astral trips and released for free download in her website. [1]

Personal life

Lukyanova was born in Tiraspol, Moldova, has resided in Odessa, Ukraine since she was 16 years old, and claims to be of "Eastern Baltic, but closer to Nordic" origin.[37] She is married to Ukrainian businessman Dmitry Shkrabov, her childhood friend.[28][38] She is a strict raw vegetarian, living on a liquid diet.[8][12]

In February 2014, she announced that she would try not to partake food or water for an unspecified time, in an attempt to live exclusively on light and air, a practice called Breatharianism.[39] However, later she stopped this experiment, stating: "I still would like to do Breatharianism someday. But right now I am far from it, and I do not know when I will do it".[40]

In a 2014 GQ interview, she expressed her views on race mixing, describing it as a problem, stating, "Ethnicities are mixing now, so there's degeneration".[41] She said that she does not want to have children or a "family lifestyle."[41]

On Halloween night 2014, Valeria reported to police that she was punched and strangled by two men outside her home, after receiving anonymous threats for over the past two years.[42] She was hospitalized and released a week later.[42]

In 2014, a regional war started in Ukraine, so due to the violence and political unrest, Valeria and her husband moved from Odessa (Ukraine) to Moscow (Russia).[43][44][45] In Moscow, Valeria participated in Dosso Dossi's fashion show as a model.[46]
