Vassilis Mazomenos (Greek: Βασίλης Μαζωμένος; born 1964, Athens) is an acclaimed producer, Scriptwriter and director . Founder and director of Horme Pictures [1] and a member of both the European Film Academy [2] and the Hellenic Film Academy [3] He is also known as a production designer [4] and a poet [5] Considered the most "special" than all Greek film makers of his generation, known for his artistic experimentation and his influences from the early German expressionism.[6] His first films had an original content with images containing a lot of allegories and symbols by using digital technology and different kinds of techniques. Mazomenos with these first films earned a international reputation as a unique director. Later he developed a different narrative with his latest movies Guilt and 10th day, where he approaches human tragedies with a more friendly way to the audience.

Life and career

Mazomenos studied political science at the University of Athens.[7] He is the son of the fighter of the National Resistance Mimis Mazomenos, grandson of Afroditi Papanastasiou that was first cousin of Alexandros Papanastasiou, the first president of the Greek Republic (1924). His grandfather, Vasileios Mazomenos was an economic immigrant in the United States[8] and returned to fight as a volunteer in the Balkan Wars. Mazomenos has worked also as an author, writing for Film and Art in newspapers and art magazines. He worked as the artistic director at the Kalamata Documentary International Film Festival and from 2005 to 2006 was the vice-president of the Greek Film Centre. Also he has been a member of national and international juries in film festivals. From 2005 to 2011 he taught film at the Cinema Department of a well known Art College. From 2012 he is teaching film in Horme Pictures.[9] Mazomenos also published in Gavriilides editions three collections of poems (2003, 2005, 2008).
