Velagapudi Ramakrishna Siddhartha Engineering College or VRSEC was the first private institution to offer undergraduate education in engineering in Andhra Pradesh, India. It consistently is ranked in the top 50 best engineering colleges in India rankings. The college was approved to be an autonomous institution by Acharya Nagarjuna University in the year 2006

Background

Named after the eminent industrialist and former Indian Civil Service (ICS) officer, Velagapudi Ramakrishna, the College was founded in 1977 and has a reputation for engineering education in Andhra Pradesh.Velagapudi Ramakrishna Siddhartha Engineering College is a self-financing institute established in the year 1977. Dr. A.V Ratna Prasad, an eminent professor is the Principal of the VRSEC.

Location

The institution is located in a large expanse of 40 acres (160,000 m2) of land in Kanuru on the outskirts of Vijayawada city at a distance of about 6 km from the city centre, on the Vijayawada-Machilipatnam Highway (NH 9). The buildings are located in close proximity to each other with wide open spaces all around. The playing fields and other student and staff amenities are within walking distance of the faculty blocks.

Campus

The College has about 4000 students, more than 250 faculty and around 200 technical and supporting staff.

  • The campus provides opportunities for developing extra curricular skills which include NCC, NSS, Students Chapters of IEEE, social clubs and sports & games.
  • VRSEC hosts inter collegiate fest namely AFOSEC(Annual Fest Of Siddhartha Engineering College) Technical and Cultural event annually. These fests draw students from many of the colleges of South India.

Achievements

  • Rs 2.67 Crores of research grant from National funding agencies in last four years.
  • Award of prestigious TIFAC-CORE in Telematics by DST in 2009.
  • 85 research publications in refereed journals and 104 in conferences in last 3 years.
  • IRG of about Rs 5.0 Crores from consultancy in last 4 years.
  • 61 of faculty members are pursuing PhD using in house resources.
  • 6 of faculty with R & D expertise acquired in the college have become prominent entrepreneurs in the country examples being (MIC Electronics Ltd., Efftronics (P) Ltd., etc. ).
  • 4th Rank as a Technology Hub at National level awarded by "Electronics for You" Magazine in 2010.

Placements

The Training and Placement Cell was started in the year 2004 by a group of 4 final-year students. With their efforts they got the first campus interview of the company Satyam Computer Services Ltd. The number of students selected rose from 21 during (2005–06) to 579 (2010–11).
