The House of Vojnović or Vojinović is a Serbian noble family of Boka Kotorska and Dalmatia. Their roots were in Herceg Novi, in a present-day Montenegro. They were very prominent politicians, intellectuals, soldiers, maritime captains and merchants in history of Dalmatia.

Origin

The Vojinović clan originates from Popovo Polje in Herzegovina. The earliest known ancestor of the Vojnovići was Vujo Vojinović, who lived in the early 17th century. His two sons, Miloš Vujov Serdarević and Jovan Vujov Vojinović relocated to Herceg Novi (then under Venetian control) in ca. 1690 due to the Great Turkish War.

Nobility

Venice would recognise the Vojnovići as counts (Conte Veneto), and after 1771, the arms of the old noble house of Vojinović (who had office in the Serbian Empire). This move was used as a basis for the house members to use the title "Count of Užice" on the count that Užice was an estate of the Vojinovići (Altomanovići). The Austrian Empire recognized the arms of the Vojnovići in 1815. Russia recognized their nobility in 1838.
