History

WCYY launched in 1972 as WIDE-FM. WIDE-FM became WBYC on March 1st, 1981 as We're Beautiful York County playing beautiful music. On December 2nd, 1985 WBYC became WYJY playing adult contemporary as Joy 94-point-3. WYJY changed calls to WSTG on January 28th, 1991 playing adult contemporary as Star 94-point-3. On July 8th, 1994 WSTG went adult album alternative and changed calls to WCYY. After a while WCYY went modern rock which it still plays.

On August 30, 2013, a deal was announced in which Townsquare Media would acquire 53 Cumulus Media stations, including WCYY, for $238 million. The deal is part of Cumulus' acquisition of Dial Global; Townsquare and Dial Global are both controlled by Oaktree Capital Management.[1][2] The sale to Townsquare was completed on November 14, 2013.[3]

WCYY is one of only two alternative stations under Townsquare Media (the other being Hudson Valley's WRRV, also acquired from Cumulus Media) as Townsquare has changed the rest of their alternative stations into active rock. There is no word on whether WCYY may flip to active rock.

Concerts

WCYY hosts seasonal concerts, including Summer Camp during the summer, and Holiday Bizarre during the winter.
