WHHW (1130 AM) is a radio station broadcasting an adult album alternative format as AM 1130 The Island. WHHW is licensed to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, USA. The station is currently owned by Alpha Media.[2]

WHHW also simulcasts its programming on an FM translator (W228CI) at 93.5, broadcasting at a power level of 250 watts.

History

The station went on the air as WHHR on February 14, 1983, operating as a sister station to WFXH-FM. WHHR then changed calls on June 11, 1987 to WHHQ, then to WHHR on March 18, 1988. On December 23, 1994 it changed its calls back to WHHR, only to change them again on New Year's Day 1995 to WFXH. On February 28, 2011 the callsign was changed to WHHW.[1]

Prior to March 6, 2011, the station was an ESPN Radio affiliate, WFXH,[3] featuring programing from CNN Radio.

Monty Jett, formerly morning host on co-owned WLOW, moved to WHHW with its change to "1130 the Island", a soft AC/adult standards format.[3]
