WKUW-LD is a Digital low-powered television station that is licensed to White House, Tennessee and is serving the Nashville, Tennessee area. It broadcasts a digital signal on UHF channel 40.

History

Originally licensed to Bowling Green, Kentucky, the station began broadcasting on October 17, 2002, as a TBN translator station, under the call sign W60DC, and was owned and operated by The Trinity Broadcasting Network.

On October 5, 2004, TBN announced that they would sell the translator to Budd Broadcasting. The sale was finalized on December 1, 2004. A year later on June 9, 2005, Budd Broadcasting changed the call sign to WKUW-LP.

On December 31, 2010, Budd Broadcasting took WKUW silent temporarily, to upgrade the station to digital operations and also to relocate the station to the White House, Tennessee area, the station also serves the Nashville, Tennessee, area. The station upgraded to digital on Channel 40 and left the Channel 60 position. Through the use of PSIP, digital television receivers display the station's virtual channel as its current UHF digital channel 40 rather than its former UHF analog channel 60, which was among the high band UHF channels (52–69) that were removed from broadcasting use as a result of the transition. The callsign was also changed to WKUW-LD.

In 2015, it was announced that WKUW-LD, along with WKUT-LD will be operated by DTV America Corporation, making WKUW and WKUT the sister station of Bowling Green-based Antenna TV and MyNetworkTV dual affiliate WCZU-LD.[2][3] On July 17, 2015, DTV America took full control of WKUW and now owns & operates the station outright.[4]

On the Weekend of Friday, September 11, 2015, WKUW began running a Test Pattern, Indicating that a new Programming & a new Affiliation will be coming soon to the Station. WKUW-LD Could affiliate with Dr TV, or could affiliate with a Spanish Network, which include Telemundo, Estrella TV & MundoMax, as DTV America has agreements with those Networks.[5]

The Station returned to the air on Monday, November 23 and became a affiliate of Doctor Television Channel. The station now transmits from a tower near Whites Creek, Tennessee near the Interstate 24 interchange with Old Hickory Boulevard, sharing tower space with television stations WUXP, WNTU-LP, WNPX, WPGD, WRTN-LD, and WJNK-LD, and radio station WGFX. [6]

On December 8, 2015, WKUW changed affiliations from Dr. TV to Buzzr (A network based on all classic game shows). WKUW was supposed to add Dr. TV to a second subchannel coming soon, unfortunately, Dr. TV was never added to the second subchannel of WKUW, instead, The Liquidation Channel was added to the second subchannel of WKUW on January 27, 2016. Additionally, WKUW launched a third subchannel as an affiliate of Escape on January 27, 2016. [7]

On April 1,2016, WKUW added Newsmax TV to its fourth subchannel & also added QVC Over the Air to their sixth subchannel. QVC Over the Air is also carried on Ion Television owned and operated station WNPX-TV. The fifth subchannel was silent until April 13, 2016 when the station added The Country Network to that subchannel. That network was previously carried under the ZUUS Country name on the second subchannel of WNAB, when it was discontinued on January 11, 2016 & replaced with a full time feed of American Sports Network, which is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group, which also operates WNAB.

In May 2016, Newsmax TV was dropped from WKUW-LD4 and replaced with The Country Network. QVC Plus replaced Country Network onm WKUW-LD5. [8]
