We Love to Sing About Jesus is an album by country music artists George Jones and Tammy Wynette released in 1972 on the Epic Records label.

Background

As the title suggests, both Jones and Wynette grew up listening to church music. Jones had recorded several gospel albums by this point, his first being Country Church Time on Mercury Records in 1959. We Love To Sing About Jesus would be one of three albums the couple would release in 1972 and peaked at number 38 on the Billboard country albums chart. Most of the material on the album came from Earl "Peanut" Montgomery, one of Jones's favorite writers. Wynette also co-wrote two songs with Montgomery for the collection. The Jordanaires and the Nashville Edition provide background vocals.

Reception

Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic derides the album, calling it "overproduced, overwrought and under-written" and, while praising their rendition of Tom T. Hall's "Me and Jesus", laments that "the bombastic production gets a little nerve-wracking about halfway through the album, and by the end of the record the music hasn't provided much inspiration. In all, a wasted opportunity."
