The Wheeler-Thanhauser Orchid Collection and Species Bank is located within Christy Woods, an 18 acre (73,000 m²) property located on the southwest corner of the Ball State University campus in Muncie, Indiana, USA. The orchid collection is the largest college maintained collection in the United States.[1]

History

In 2014, the orchid greenhouse re-opened after a $1.35 million renovation. Over 300 volunteers helped with the renovations. The renovations were funded by Joe Rinard. The greenhouse is named after Rinard and his wife, Alice.[1]

Garden and seed bank

The greenhouse has the orchid garden and seed bank. It is 3,600 square feet in size.[1] The greenhouse and seed bank hold over 1,800 species of plants.[2]
