White Plains Senior High School is the main high school in the White Plains Public Schools system of White Plains, New York, United States.[1] It was selected by the U.S. Department of Education as a School of Excellence in 1986-87. The school's code of conduct,[2] and its state accountability report[3] are available online.

Demographics

The student body is 52.1 percent Hispanic, 23.1 percent White, 21.7 percent Black, and three percent Asian.[4]

Jiggy Showcase

The Jiggy Showcase is an annual showcase that displays the diverse cultural roots of White Plains High School students. Various dancing styles, songs, and outfits are represented by performers and models. The showcase was named after the Will Smith song, "Getting Jiggy With It".

Songwriter's Showcase

The Songwriter's Showcase exhibits students' singing, and songwriting talents which are performed for a public audience. The showcase became a biannual event in 2000.

Sports

"It is the basic educational philosophy of the White Plains City School District to prepare our students to become productive, contributing citizens of our community and society. We believe that a comprehensive program of student activities is vital to the educational development of our students. The athletic program is an extension of this philosophy."[8]

The school makes available for its students two gymnasiums, a weight room, a track field and football field (Loucks Field),[9] a soccer field, baseball and softball fields, and tennis courts. White Plains football team won the Section 1 class AA title in 2013 for the first time in 34 years.

Theater

The school has an impressive theater department which typically puts on three plays and one musical each year. The plays are performed in the Little Theater, while the musicals are performed in the auditorium.

In film

Scenes from The Beaver, a film directed by Jodie Foster and starring Mel Gibson and Foster, were filmed at the high school in the fall of 2009.[20] Scenes from the film Win Win, starring Paul Giamatti, were shot at the high school in March 2010.[21]
