William Taylor Thornton

William Taylor Thornton (February 9, 1843 – March 16, 1916) was the 15th Governor of New Mexico Territory from 1893 to 1897.

Biography

Thornton was born on February 9, 1843 in Calhoun, Missouri. He served in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. He was member of Missouri state house of representatives in 1876 and member of New Mexico territorial council in 1880. He was mayor of Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1891. He died on March 16, 1916 in Santa Fe. He was preceded as Governor by LeBaron Bradford Prince and succeeded by Miguel Antonio Otero.
