3196 Maklaj (1978 RY) is a main-belt asteroid discovered on September 1, 1978 by Nikolai Chernykh at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory at Nauchnyj, Ukraine.
It was named in honor of the explorer and scientist Nicholas Miklouho-Maclay.[2]
