AES67 is a standard for audio-over-IP interoperability. The standard was developed by the Audio Engineering Society and published in September 2013. It is a layer 3 protocol suite based on existing standards and is designed to allow interoperability between various IP-based audio networking systems such as RAVENNA, Livewire, Q-LAN and Dante. It also identifies commonalities with Audio Video Bridging (AVB) and documents AVB interoperability scenarios.[2][3]
AES67 promises interoperability between previously competing audio-over-IP systems[4] and long-term network interoperation between systems.[5] Since its publication, AES67 has been implemented independently by several manufacturers and adopted by many others.
Development
The standard was developed by the Audio Engineering Society beginning at the end of 2010.[6] The standard was published September 2013.[1][7][8][9][10]
The Media Networking Alliance was formed in October 2014 to promote adoption of AES67.[11]
In October 2014 a plugfest was held to test interoperability achieved with AES67.[12][13] A second plugfest was conducted in November 2015.[14]
Adoption
The standard has been implemented by Axia,[15] Wheatstone,[16] Riedel,[17] Coveloz Technologies,[18] ALC NetworX,[19] Dante[20] and Sonifex[21] and is supported by RAVENNA-enabled devices under its AES67 Operational Profile.[22] Audinate,[23][24][25][26][27] QSC,[28][29] Archwave,[30] Digigram[31] and Wheatstone[32] have announced plans to implement the standard.
