Abu Dhabi Indian School (ADIS) is one of the largest private school offering Indian (CBSE) curriculum education in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The School is managed by a Honorary Board of Governors, with the head chairman being Dr. B. R. Shetty. This school is run on a no-profit basis and its facilities are dedicated to the service of the community, with the oversight of the Ambassador of India to U.A.E, as the Chief Patron, H E Mr. T.P. Seetharam.

The school is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, India and is recognized and licensed by the Ministry of Education, Abu Dhabi. It is considered the best school among all the schools offering Indian curriculum in Abu Dhabi.

Location

Abu Dhabi Indian School is located on 23rd Street, of Shabia Muroor Area in Abu Dhabi, at close proximity to Al Salam Street (8th Street) and the New Corniche, easily accessible by road from all parts of Abu Dhabi city. It is located near the house of the South African Ambassador to the U.A.E.

History

Abu Dhabi Indian School was initially based at the old Indian Social Center (ISC) premises in the year 1975. The school was able to have its own campus by 1980, with the help of the Late UAE President, H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan had donated a large plot of land in the Shabia Muroor Area so as to provide good educational facilities for the Indian community in the UAE. Many famous personalities have given a speech at Abu Dhabi Indian School like Abdul Kalam, Pratibha Patil, Kapil Sibal, Sam Pitroda, Anand Kumar, etc.

Academics

The school is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and is recognized by the Ministry of Education, Abu Dhabi. The school offers full-time education from Kindergarten to Class XII. Boys and girls are segregated in upper primary school and in secondary school (from Class 2).

SSC-level language electives include French and Hindi and Special Arabic. HSC-level specializations include the Science stream with Mathematics / Biology / Computer Science, and Commerce with Mathematics / Informatics Practices / Sociology electives. Throughout this decade, the school has produced excellent results in the CBSE board examination of Classes X and XII. Its alumni have gone on to join some of the top colleges in India like the Indian Institutes of Technology, National Institutes of Technology, Anna University, Delhi Technological University, AIIMS, BIT Mesra, Loyola College, Chennai, Christ University, etc. and abroad like NUS, Nanyang Technological University, Georgia Tech, UCLA, Caltech, Cornell, Purdue University, etc.

Admission

Admission to Abu Dhabi Indian School is extremely competitive. Every year there is an enormous turnout of parents seeking admissions to lower classes which have very few number of seats. Admissions in lower classes is done on the basis of a lottery followed by an interview. For class 9 and above, it is done on the basis of an entrance examination followed by an interview. Last year there were more than 2000 applicants for 1st Standard admission which only has a total of 200 seats. In 2013, there were around 4000 applicants for 75 seats to KG1. For 11th admission, over 300 students from all over the emirate took the entrance test, out of which only 9 of them were selected for the science stream and 2 for the commerce stream. The rest of the seats were filled internally based on the merit list of the students passing out from the same school after 10th grade.

Campus

The campus land and was granted by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the former president of the United Arab Emirates to the Indian Ambassador to build an educational institution for the Indian community in Abu Dhabi.

The Abu Dhabi Indian School, which has one of the largest campuses in the UAE, was the first private school to have a variety of co-curricular facilities like the artificial turf, tartan track, indoor swimming pool, tennis court, indoor badminton courts, etc. It is the only Indian school in Abu Dhabi with international standards.

Various student associations provide a platform for students to organize activities of interest.

Prakriti - Nature Club (boys and girls)

The Nature Club of the Abu Dhabi Indian School was formally launched in April 1993 with an aim to spread environmental awareness among the students and the community, in collaboration with local governmental and non-governmental agencies associated with environment protection. This Club is headed by the Headmaster, Mr. Karan Singh Raghwa and Mrs. Kala Krishnan, and organizes various intra-school competitions.

Voices — Debating Club (girls)

Voices, the girls debating club of the school, was officially instituted in 1999 by the Girls Section of the School, which aimed at improving the student's abilities in public speaking. The club organizes intra-school as well as inter-school debating competitions, and provides a platform for students with interest in debating and public speaking.

Operation Smile -Volunteering Club(Girls)

"Operation Smile" is a newly formed Volunteering club that enables children to volunteer and raise funds for children suffering from cleft lip and/or palate through means of recycling drives and various competitions.

Transition — IT Club (Entire ADIS)

Transition is a newly formed IT club formed in 2014 which creates a pavement for the students of Abu Dhabi Indian School to showcase their ideas in computing, image editing, video editing and photography. It aims at improve the computing skills in a student for simplification of their work.This club have received immense acclaim for the work it has done for school from making the film"PROUD" to helping ADIS to design its 40th anniversary logo. This club is considered as one of the best clubs in Abu Dhabi Indian School.

Verbatim — Debating Club (boys)

Verbatim, is a newly formed debate club to cater to the interests of students in the boys section. Officially formed in 2009, it provides a good platform for students to exhibit their talents and their public speaking interests. It aims at improving the communication skills of students in the boys section.

GEARS - Robotics Club (boys)

GEARS was formed in 2011 after the school's participation in the 2011 World Robotics Olympiad. It was officially instituted on June 25, 2012 at the school auditorium. It seeks to encourage more students to take part in robotics.

Q-Matter - Quiz Club (boys)

Q-Matter was formed recently to test the quizzing skills of the students.
