Architect of Lies is the fifth album released by the band Mercenary, but the third through Century Media Records. This is the first album to include René "Renegade" Pedersen on bass and death growls who replaced founding member Henrik "Kral" Andersen who left the band in March 2006. This is also the last album to include vocalist Mikkel Sandager, keyboardist Morten Sandager, and drummer Mike Park. The album was released March 25, 2008. With this album Mercenary exhibits a sound closer to thrash metal, a sound previously explored on Everblack.

Artwork is provided by Niklas Sundin who also did the artwork for 11 Dreams. Two versions of the album will be released. One being the normal CD and the second being a limited edition including the bonus track "Death Connection" and a bonus DVD offering live footage filmed at Bang Your Head!!! 2007 and Summer Nights festival 2007, a detailed studio report and the promo video for "My World Is Ending," from their last album The Hours that Remain.

On January 25, "Embrace the Nothing" was posted on the band's MySpace page.
