History
Arkha (Hindi: अरखा) was a zamindari whose leader held a title of a Taluqdar which was given by the British Administration. However, Arkha was one of many noble houses of Awadh which opposed the British. Arkha joined Rana Beni Madho Singh of Shankarpur in the struggle against the British Raj in United Provinces of Agra and Oudh. In the October of 1920, Baba Ram Chandra came to Raebareli and established a Kisan Sabha in Arkha and Rasoolpur (Salon). Kissan Andolan of 1920-21 is written in golden letters in the history of Indian National Movement. In Non-Cooperation Movement of 1930, Raebareli was the first in U.P to give a lead to Namak Satyagrah and the people of Arkha were involved in the movement. After Independence, Late. Har Narain Singh ji of the Arkha family went on to become a Congress leader and a Member of the Legislative Assembly (M.L.A) from Dalmau Constituency from 1980 until his demise in 1992. He is also remembered for the work he did in his constituency and in the reqion. He was responsible for the establishment of the Feroze Gandhi Thermal Power Plant with the support of Arun Nehru (M.P of the 7th and 8th Lok Sabha from Raebareli). At that time, Raebareli was one of the most backward districts of India, and the establishment of the NTPC Power Plant made many job opportunities for the people in and around Arkha. He is also regarded for the launch of Unchahar Express. There is an inter college named after him in Unchahar.
