Avenir Centre (French: Centre Avenir) is an 8,800 seat indoor multi sports arena[1] in Moncton, New Brunswick. The arena opened in 2018 and serves as the home to the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League as well as the Moncton Magic of the National Basketball League. The centre replaced Moncton Coliseum as the city's main indoor arena, although the Coliseum remains open. The centre is named for Avenir Hearing, a New Brunswick audiology company who has 11 clinics throughout the province.[2]

History

Proposed as a replacement for the Moncton Coliseum, the arena was approved in the spring of 2014 by the Moncton City Council on an 8–3 vote. Groundbreaking took place in the spring of 2016, with a planned opening in the fall of 2017. That date was pushed back a year. A Keith Urban concert on September 12, 2018,[3] part of his Graffiti U World Tour, served as the official opening, with a Moncton Wildcats game vs. the Saint John Sea Dogs the first sporting event on September 15. The Moncton Magic hosted their first NBL Canada game vs. the Halifax Hurricanes on November 17.[4] UFC Fight Night 138 took place on October 27.
