History

Bagno di Romagna was founded by the Romans, developing after a bath (balneum in Latin, whence the modern name). In 540 it was destroyed by the Ostrogoths. The town recovered after the 14th century under the Guidi family, who surrounded it with a line of walls. Later it was under the Republic of Florence and the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. It became part of the Emilia-Romagna region in 1923.
