Balkonda is a village and a Mandal in Nizamabad district in the state of Telangana in India.[1]
Notable Persons
Argul Rajaram is well known personality and champion of Backward Class community. It is not exaggerate to quote here he was “Father of Nizamabad District” and well known personality not only in A.P .H worked as home minister and died supecious in road accident other wise he will become CM.
Geography
Balkonda is located at .[2] Also known as Allakonda, the mandal of Balkonda contains 36 villages. Mendora, Kissannagar, Pochampad, Kothapally, Mupkal, Bussapur, Elkatur,Chittapur, Jalalpur, Renjarlla, and Vannel-B are the major villages in the mandal. Very ancient ShivaLingam is there in RajarajeshvaraSwami temple in Kothapally village and big Uthsav(jathara) conducted for every Maha Shivaratri festival and this village is also famous for 'Kabaddi' game in district.[clarification needed]
And Goddess SRI NIMISHAMBA DEVI temple located at Nakash Galli. She is very powerful goddess. Devi Navaratri Utsav conducted grandly during Dassera festival by devoties. This temple was built by Nakhash cast group. At present MR. BR. NARSING RAO is a president of temple committee.
The Sriram Sagar Project reservoir was established by Jawaharlal Nehru on the Godavari river at Pochampad, and has 42 gates and a water depth of 1,091 ft (333 m). Identities of Nizam army camps are found on the hills of Balkonda. It is an assembly constituency in combination with the mandals of Velpur, Morthad, and Kammarpally. The main water sources for cultivation in this mandal are Kakatiya and Lakshmi canals, bore wells, agricultural wells and lakes. Farmers in Balkonda mainly cultivate rice, turmeric (pasupu), corne (mokka jonna), pearl millet (sajja), and ground nuts. Armur and Nirmal are the nearest towns to Balkonda. Present Balkonda MLA MR. Vemula Prashanth Reddy was elected in the 2014 general elections from the Telngana Rastra Samiti party.
