History
Bayswater station opened in 1896. From 1897 until 1956 it was the junction station for the Belmont Spur Railway to the nearby Ascot Racecourse.[1][2] Local references to the railway line, and the bridge over the Swan River usually referred to the line as the Belmont branch railway, and the Belmont bridge due to the current suburb of Ascot being known as part of Belmont at the time. The service was suspended during the 1926 floods.[3]
Originally built as two side platforms, the station was later rebuilt as a single island platform. In 2020, Bayswater is scheduled to become a junction station again, when the Forrestfield-Airport Link opens to the east.[4][5]
