Bismarck Municipal Airport[1][2] (IATA: BIS[4], ICAO: KBIS, FAA LID: BIS) is in Burleigh County, North Dakota,[1] three miles southeast of the City of Bismarck, North Dakota, which owns it. The National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015 categorized it as a primary commercial service airport.[5]
A $15 million terminal designed by Tvenge Associates opened in May 2005.[6] The previous terminal was in use for over 40 years (a two-story addition opened in 1982) and was demolished in summer 2005. A parking lot is just south of the new terminal.

Facilities
Bismarck Municipal Airport covers 2,425 acres (981 ha) at an elevation of 1,661 feet (506 m). It has two runways, both asphalt: 13/31 is 8,794 by 150 feet (2,680 x 46 m) and 3/21 is 6,600 by 100 feet (2,012 x 30 m)/[1]
In 2011 the airport had 48,935 aircraft operations, average 134 per day: 66% general aviation, 21% air taxi, 10% military, and 3% airline. 89 aircraft were then based at the airport: 52% single-engine, 25% multi-engine, 16% military, and 8% jet.[1]
In 2010 Bismarck Airport set an passenger boarding record with 194,043 passengers.[citation needed] The previous record was set in 1979 when the Women's Professional Bowling League held a tournament in Bismarck.[citation needed] Airport Manager Greg Haug says the combination of North Dakota's economy and new airline services have contributed to the increase.[citation needed] He says the airport's growth is a good sign for the community. "It's going to help us garner more flights and negotiation on more air service and that can provide additional competition which can lead to drops in price."[citation needed]
