Burning Blue Soul (1981) is an album released under the artist name of Matt Johnson. This album was re-released in 1993 under Matt Johnson's band's name, The The. Johnson requested that 4AD do this so that all his albums would be racked together in record stores. The original 1981 Matt Johnson credited release is highly sought after by collectors. The album is an accomplished debut, with a unique mix of guitar riffs, tape loops, experimental electronics and heavily effected vocals, which sometimes obscure the political lyrics of certain songs. Despite rumours to the contrary, all releases of Burning Blue Soul contain the same mixes.
