Carlton is a village and civil parish in the Selby district of North Yorkshire, England. The village is situated approximately 5 miles (8 km) south-east of the town of Selby on the A1041 road.
According to the 2001 UK census, Carlton parish had a population of 1,829,[1] increasing to 1,934 at the 2011 Census.[2]
Holy Family Catholic High School is a secondary school located in the village.[3]
The unusually named Odddfellows Arms public house is in the village. During the 1980s, a mistake by a signwriter resulted in the incorrect spelling of the name Oddfellows.[4] In 1994, the brewery tried to correct this, only to face a backlash by the locals. The pub has since closed, been listed for housing and then refurbished and re-opened with the unusual name still above the door.[5]
