In the Transformers television series episode "Call of the Primitives" a number of Autobots and Decepticons banded together in an attempt to stop the evil energy eating Tornedron. Through some unexplained link they shared because of having bestial alternate modes, they were called by Primacron's assistant to a planet where they fought Tornatron.

The Primitives were initially led by Sky Lynx and transported in the belly of Trypticon. Eventually the Primitives were all defeated by Tornatron, except for Grimlock who had been seemingly crushed by Trypticon when he fell in battle, had survived and was able to defeat Tornadron by flipping a switch in Primacron's lab. This reversed the energy flow in Tornatron and forced it to return the energy it drained from all its victims.
