College Career
As a collegiate quarterback at the William and Mary, [3] he led the leading offense in NCAA Division I-AA.[4] He held the school's single-season passing record of 3,414 yards until Lang Campbell broke it in 2004.[5]

In 1992, Chris was drafted in the 4 Round (#112) in the NFL Draft, by the Washington Redskins. He was put on injured reserves for the season.[6][7] In the 1993 pre-season Hakel was given a second shot by the Redskins[8] but was cut by the Redskins[9] and was signed by the Atlanta Falcons and was on the practice squad. After being cut by the Falcons, the Kansas City Chiefs signed Hakel to the 1994 53 man roster.[10]
