Citizen TV is a national station in Kenya owned by Royal Media Services Ltd[1] and broadcasting mostly in English and Swahili. It was started in 1999 and relaunched in June 2006. It is Kenya's fastest growing television station with a strong focus on local programming.

Citizen TV boasts a total reach of 45% of the market share (Ipsos Karf Report 2014) and 12 years in existence as the pioneer brand for Royal Media Services Ltd Footprint with the largest coverage and reach country wide. It covers all socioeconomic grouping, speaking to all ages and all genders.

Citizen TV Development

The success of Citizen TV paved way to the growth of Royal Media Services Ltd in 2003 through allocation of countrywide frequencies for radio streaming. The company currently has the widest geographical reach as the parent company for several leading national and vernacular stations namely:

Management

The company is headed by the Managing Director Mr. Wachira Waruru.

The Chief Operations Officer Farida Karoney develops company policies and goals.

The Company has Directors and Managers heading Programs, Technical, and Editorial, IT, Finance, HR & Administration and Commercial divisions.

Royal Media services has expanded into the COMESA region and already has a presence in Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia and Burundi and is in the process of rolling out in Tanzania and Southern Sudan.

Outside Kenya

Citizen TV is in Kampala, Uganda, and in Zambia on a free-to-air signal and on DSTV channel 146 in Uganda, Tanzania, DR Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan.[16] It is also available on TalkTalk Plus TV channel 561 in the United Kingdom.

Programming

Citizen TV airs a variety of genres of entertainment ranging from local and international.It is known to air a good number of Telenovelas and has an acceptable amount of local content.
