Deborah Cox is the self-titled debut album by Canadian recording artist Deborah Cox. It was released in the United States on September 9, 1995 by Arista Records.

Overview

Deborah Cox was executive produced by Clive Davis and featured productions from prolific songwriters and producers such as Babyface, Daryl Simmons and Dallas Austin, who had previously worked with Whitney Houston, TLC and Toni Braxton, among others. The album was a blend of r&b/soul, adult contemporary and pop.

"Sentimental" was released as the lead single from the album, and peaked at #27 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #4 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The second single "Who Do U Love" fared better on the singles chart, peaking at #17 on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart, and selling 500,000 copies domestically.[2] It also attained world-wide success, peaking at #2 on the New Zealand Singles Chart and reaching the Top 20 on other international charts.

The album earned Cox a Juno Award for Best R&B/Soul Recording at the 1996 Juno Awards. Cox also received a nomination for Best Soul/R&B New Artist at the 1996 American Music Awards.

The album has been certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America, for sales of over 500,000 units.

2012 Re-Release

In 2012, the album was remastered and re-released in the UK by New Skool Sounds as a 2CD deluxe edition with 16 additional tracks.[3]
