Digital Island was an American high-end managed web hosting, private networking and Content Delivery Network (CDN) provider. From its founding in 1996, Digital Island created a high-availability web application hosting network for top-tier customers throughout the world. Notably, Digital Island succeeded in delivering high-performance web services under a usage-based pricing model. Digital Island was purchased by Cable & Wireless America. The assets and customers of Cable & Wireless America were then purchased by SAVVIS, who sold the CDN product-line to Level 3 Communications in January 2007.
