El pecado de Oyuki (English title: Oyuki's sin) is a Mexican telenovela produced by Lucy Orozco for Televisa in 1988.[1] It was based on an original story by Yolanda Vargas Dulché, who also adapted the screenplay for television. The original comic book series was in the style of the foto-novela. For the role of Oyuki, the photographer selected the Japanese Mexican, Sachiko Tsuchiya. Born in Tepic, Nayarit, she became the most recognizable Asian Mexican of her time. The telenovela was shown in the United States in 1988 through Univision. Dulché's story was also adapted for Brazilian television in 1967 and as a comic published starting April 11, 1975 by Grupo Editorial Vid. The Brazilian version was called "Yoshiko, um poema de amor" and starred actors Luis Gustavo and Rosa Miake.

Ana Martín, Boy Olmi and Salvador Sánchez starred as protagonists.

Plot

The story takes place in Japan during the 19th century. Oyuki Ogino is a Geisha, exploited by her elder brother Yutaka Ogino. She meets, falls in love and marries Irving Pointer, an English painter, against both their families' wishes. After they are forced to leave her country for England, she gives birth to a child, Yuriko (Lilly). When Yutaka Ogino accidentally kills Irving, Oyuki is sent to jail unjustly. Yuriko is then adopted and raised by her English grandparents. 15 years later, Yutaka Ogino reveals on his deathbed that he is Irving's real killer and Oyuki is fred 5 years prior her expected release from prison. Ultimately, Oyuki reconciles with her lost daughter Yuriko. In the last scene we see an aged Oyuki dying in peace and her soul is found by Irving's in a last romantic moment for both of them.
