Fort Cowan Cowan

Fort Cowan Cowan is a heritage-listed World War II bunker and fortification complex that was used to protect the approaches to Moreton Bay. The fortification is located north of Cape Cowan Cowan on Moreton Island, Queensland, Australia. Planning for the fort was undertaken in 1935, and it was constructed in 1937. The fort was operational until 1945, and was officially closed in 1960.[1]

Heritage listing

The fort was listed on the Queensland Heritage Register in 2007.[1]

Cowan Battery

The fort's main armament consisted of two BL 6 inch Mk XI naval guns.[2]
