Geostorm is an upcoming 2017 American science fiction disaster action thriller film co-written, produced, and directed by Dean Devlin, as his feature film directorial debut. The film stars Gerard Butler, Abbie Cornish, Katheryn Winnick, Alexandra Lara, Jim Sturgess, Amr Waked, Ed Harris and Andy García. The film is about a satellite designer who tries to save the world from a storm of epic proportions caused by climate-controlling satellites.

Principal photography began on October 20, 2014, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Electric Entertainment and Skydance Productions are producing the film, to be released by Warner Bros. on January 13, 2017.

Plot

As a man heads into space to prevent climate-controlling satellites from creating a storm of epic proportions, his brother discovers a plot to assassinate the president.

Cast

Production

The pre-production began on July 7, 2014.[2] Dean Devlin was set to direct an sci-fi action film Geostorm for Warner Bros., which will star Gerard Butler as the lead,[3] with Jim Sturgess, Abbie Cornish, Ed Harris and Andy García.[4] On August 19, Alexandra Lara joined the film's cast to play the commander of a space station and also Butler's character's love interest who helps him save the world.[5] On September 26, Katheryn Winnick was added to the cast; she would play Olivia, Butler's character's ex-wife and mother of Hannah.[6] On October 8, Eugenio Derbez was added to the cast of the film.[7]

Filming

The principal photography on the film began on October 20, 2014, in New Orleans, Louisiana,[8][9] and would last through February 10, 2015.[9] Filming began on Loyola Ave on the first day.[10] Some NASA scenes were filmed at NASA Facility in New Orleans in November 2014 and January 2015.[11][12]

Release

The film was set for a March 25, 2016 release.[13] However, in August 2014, Warner cancelled the March 2016 date for the film, and replaced the film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with its original date.[14] On December 11, 2014, WB shifted its live-action animated film Jungle Book to 2017 and gave its previous date October 21, 2016 to Geostorm.[15] In September 2015, the studio again moved back the film to release on January 13, 2017.[16]
