Govind Vallabh Pant Sagar is a man-made lake situated in southern region of Sonebhadra named after Bharat Ratna Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant. The chief minister of United Provinces (present day Uttar Pradesh) from September 10, 1887 to March 7, 1961, he was a statesman of India, an Indian independence activist. One of the foremost political leaders from Uttarakhand (then in United Provinces), he was involved in the movement to establish Hindi as the national language of India.
Energy Capital Of India
The area in southern region of Sonebhadra district Eastern Uttar Pradesh and singrauli district of madhya pradesh is referred as Energy Capital Of India because the region has large reserves of coal and a dozen power plants of UPRVUNL and NTPC are installed around the Govind Ballabh Pant Sagar. The headquarters of Northern Coalfields Limited is also situated in the very region. The region produces more than 10,000 MW of electricity, largest in India after Dadri in Western Uttar Pradesh.

Transport
Muirpur Airport a private airport owned by Hindalco is situated on western bank of Govind Ballabh Pant Sagar. The airport does not have scheduled flights, rather it is used for chartered and private planes.
