Groningen theology was a popular movement which grew from the founding influence of Philip Willem van Heusde, who was Professor of Philosophy at the University of Utrecht from 1804 to 1839. The emphasis of the movement was education: God educates people through his acts. The ideas of Groningen theology entered the Dutch Reformed Church.
