This article needs a revise! As formerly mentioned on the discussion page of Veracruz Sporting Club, there have been two different clubs named IBERIA which have played in the old Liga Amateur de Veracruz; One was from the Port of Veracruz and merged with Sporting Club in 1943, as described in this article. Its name was Iberia de Veracruz. The other one was from the sister-city of Orizaba, Córdoba (which is about 2 hours by bus from the Port of Veracruz), and was called Iberia de Córdoba. These are two different clubs (references are given on the before mentioned discussion page). The fact that they are not identical is also described on the following website in Spanish : Campeones de la Liga Amateur de Veracruz (1915 - 1943). Although the article about "Liga Amateur de Veracruz" is referring to this source, it is - unlike the source! - also confusing the two clubs and merge their playing records as if they were one club.

Iberia de Córdoba was a former Mexican football team that played in the Liga amateur de Veracruz and the Primera Fuerza prior to the professionalization and development of the Mexican first division. The club was established in 1915 and was dissolved in 1943 when it merged with cross town rivals Veracruz Sporting Club and form Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz.

History

Iberia de Córdoba Sporting Club was founded in 1915 in the south side of Veracruz, Mexico by the Spaniards residing there at the time. The brothers Olivarrieta who were wealthy Spanish immigrants quickly made their presence felt by signing quality Spanish players and winning its first title in 1918.

In 1919 the club was invited to play in the Primera Fuerza by Real Club España, an amateur league in Mexico City. The club decided to change its name to Club España de Veracruz. The club didn't fare too well in their first tournament, finishing last, and winning three games out of twelve with seven points. In their second tournament the club once again finished last winning only 2 games out of 16 matches gaining only 8 points. After 2 bad seasons winning only 5 games out of 28 games played, the club return to play in the Liga Sur in Veracruz after the Primera Fuerza decides that only clubs from the capital would be allowed to participate in the league. In their return the club return to a league dominated by Veracruz Sporting Club, who would dominate the league in the 20s and 30s after the club had its chance to play in the Primera Fuerza in Mexico City.

In 1943 after the professionalization of football in Mexico the clubs decided to merge with their cross town rivals Veracruz Sporting Club and create Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz in order to enroll in the Primera División de México.
