The Inheritors is the name of a supervillain group that appears in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. They make their first appearance in The Superior Spider-Man #33 as part of the "Spider-Verse" storyline and are created by Christos N. Gage and M.A. Sepulveda.

Fictional team history

The Inheritors are a a clan of totem hunters from Earth-001 that fed off the totems of animal and humans. The Inheritors took part in a battle against a spider deity called the Master Weaver on Earth-000 and succeeded in capturing it at the cost of the life of the Inheritors unnamed matriarch because Karn hesitated to strike. As a result, the patriarch Solus confined Karn to wear a mask and outcasted him until he can earn himself back. With the power of the Master Weaver, they use its power to conquer Earth-001. They then used the Master Weaver's powers to travel between dimensions and hunt all Spider-Totem avatars. Superior Spider-Man (Doctor Octopus's mind in Spider-Man's body) discovered Karn as and his new team (Spider-Man Noir, Six Arm Spider-Man, Spider-Monkey, Ashley Barton and Assassin Spider-Man) set an ambush for Karn on the Cyborg Spider-Man's reality of Earth-2818. The plan backfires when Karn reveals he is unaffected by their weapons. The team is only able to escape when Karn's brother and sister Brix and Bora arrive, and fight among themselves. Karn had escaped the little incursion between his brother and sister, and hops into another multiverse to kill an alternate Ai Apeac by reminiscing his past life as an Inheritor, and sucking away his life force essence back at him.

Morlun then traveled to Earth-31411 where he encounters Aaron Aikman. Then he heads to Earth-51412 where he absorbs the lifeforce of Patton Parnell.

On Earth-1983, Morlun slays the local Spider-Man and his teammates Iceman and Firestar. On Earth-999, Bora and Brix slay Spider-Cat. On Earth-7891, Daemos kills Spider-Man and several animalistic inhabitants of Counter-Earth. This was watched by Spider-UK until he cuts the scanner feed when Jennix detects it.

As Spider-Man learns of the threat of the Inheritors, Daemos arrives in Eastern Europe to target Kaine Parker. Old Man Spider-Man, Spider-Man of Earth-70105, and Spider-Woman of Earth-65 appear. Daemos snaps Spider-Man of Earth-70105's spine and the others escape through a portal. The Inheritors massive dinner-table is laden with crippled Spider-Totems are waiting for Morlun as he returns carrying Spider-Totem. As Verna takes her Hounds Sable, Fireheart, and Kravinoff (Earth-001's version of Silver Sable, Puma, and Kraven the Hunter) out to hunt, Morlun is furious that Daemos was hunting on Earth-616 tells him it is his Spider-Totem as they fight until their father Solus intimidates them. Solus reminds them that he has known all along where the Bride, the Other, and the Scion are located, and about a prophecy that will bring the downfall of the Inheritors. He asks his son what is his desire. Morlun responds that his wish is to be his father's chosen heir, the Great Web is his legacy and obligation. Solus corrects him stating that the Web is all things and everywhere and that it is their kingdom making them the Inheritors of all creation.

When Verna and her Hounds are hunting Miles Morales and the Earth-1610 Jessica Drew who now operates as Black Widow, Superior Spider-Man, Assassin Spider-Man, and Spider-Punk show up to rescue them. When Spider-Man arrives on Earth-928 and finds that Superior Spider-Man is in charge, Old Man Spider-Man tells him about the prophecy that involves targeting the Bride, the Other, and the Scion. When Daemos arrives and kills Spider-Cyborg, Superior Spider-Man kills Daemos only for a second Daemos to arrive with Brix and Bora as the second Daemos fatally wounds Old Man Spider-Man. As the Spider-Men escape to Earth-13 upon realizing that the Inheritors are clones, Spider-Man is advised by a dying Old Man Spider-Man to protect the totems at all costs.

On Earth-13989, Karn kills a werewolf version of Spider-Man and asks for Solus if he can come home. Solus instead has the Master Weaver send Karn to a more challenging world. When Morlun and Jennix arrive on Earth-13, they kill Spider-Monkey and a variation of Captain Spider as the Captain Universe-powered Spider-Man kills Jennix upon Solus' arrival. As Solus kills Cosmic Spider-Man, Morlun makes off with Richard Benjamin "Benjy" Parker.

Ben Reilly of Earth-94, Kaine, and Black Widow of Earth-1610 run into this world's version of Tony Stark, overpower him, and learn that Jennix's lab is in the Baxter Building. As Jennix regenerates on Earth-802 and refuses to return to battle, Black Widow of Earth-1610, Ben Reilly of Earth-94, and Kaine make their move on his headquarters in the Baxter Building. Meanwhile, Solus kills Arachnosaurus and Prince of Arachne and destroys Takuya Yamashiro's Leopardon. On Earth-3145, Silk arrives as Brix and Bora are unable to enter this world due to the radiation being harmful to them. As the Spider-Army has been moving across dimensions, it turns out that Jennix has been monitoring them. Arriving on Earth-001, Morlun gives Benjy to Brix and Bora.

On Earth-802, Jennix reveals that he had cloned various spiders to feed his family which is not enough. As Ben Reilly prepares to sacrifice himself to destroy the lab, an angered Kain steals Black Widow of Earth-1610's teleporter to confront the Inheritors.

Six-Arm Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2099, and the steam punk Lady Spider of Earth-803 travel to 2099 in order to dissect the clone body of Daemos for clues on how to defeat his brethren. Followed to the future by a new Daemos, Six Arm Spider-Man creates a distraction, but is killed before Miguel traps the Inheritor in stasis field. The trap is short lived, as Daemos kills himself so another clone can be activated. Miguel enlists the help of the Earth-928 Punisher to hold off Daemos until Spider-Man 2099 and Lady Spider can transport back to the safe zone of Earth-13, only to find that it has been destroyed by Solus

Karn comes to Earth-3123 to kill the spider-totem of this reality, where Aunt May was bitten by a radioactive spider and became Spider-Ma'am. May surrenders herself to keep her husband and nephew from harm. Karn is stopped by Spider-Girl, Spider-UK, Spider-Punk, Spider-Man: India, and Spider-Woman of Earth-807128 who convince Karn to join them. The Spiders allow him to drain a non-lethal amount of life-force from each of them to satiate his hunger and Karn agrees to join them against the Inheritors.

After Black Widow of Earth-1610 and Kaine destroy the cloning facility on Earth-802 at the cost of the life of Ben Reilly of Earth-94, the Inheritors start to go on the offensive. When Kaine arrives on Earth-001, he transforms into a monstrous spider and impales Solus causing an enraged Morlun to apparently kill Kaine.

In the final confrontation, the Spider-Men had overpowered the Inheritors with the help of Karn and stop the ritual to end them all, although Superior Spider-Man kills the Master Weaver so that the Inheritors cannot travel between dimensions with their powers. Enraged, Morlun tries to attack Peter Parker of Earth-616, but he uses the teleporter to trap Morlun on Earth-3145, a world decimated by a nuclear explosion arguing that he is not killing Morlun as he is prepared to die there as well and Morlun could reach a nearby fallout bunker erected by the local Ezekiel to keep the local Spider-Totem safe for protection. However, Peter is subsequently rescued by Silk, leaving Morlun and the other Inheritors trapped on Earth-3145 with a crystal containing Solus' essence. Before all Spider-Men can return to their home dimensions, Silk asks Karn (who became the new Master Weaver) if Morlun and the Inheritors will be able to survive without Spider-Totems. The Master Weaver remarks that Morlun and the Inheritors are feeding on only surviving life-forms on Earth-3145 which happens to be mutated spiders.

The Inheritors appear in Spider-Man Unlimited with Morlun voiced by Travis Willingham, Solus voiced by Neil Kaplan, Daemos and Jennix voiced by Neil Kaplan, and Karn voiced by Matthew Mercer.

In the Jim Butcher novel Spider-Man: The Darkest Hours, a prototype version of the Inheritors appear called the Ancients which consists of Mortia, Thanis and Malos. They appeared to take revenge on Spider-Man after Morlun's first death.
