Jan Josef Horemans

Jan Josef Horemans the Elder (1682–1759) was an 18th-century painter from the Southern Netherlands.
Biography
He was born in Antwerp and became the pupil of the painter Jan van Pee and the sculptor Michiel Frans van der Voort.[1] In 1706 he became master in the Antwerp Guild of St. Luke as a pupil of the sculptor Van der Voort.[1] The next year he married his teacher's daughter Maria-Francisca.[1] Their son Jan Josef II and his younger brother Pieter Jacob also became painters.[1] He is known for portraits, genre works, and historical allegories.[1] He died in Antwerp.
