Jean-Pierre Talbot (French: [talbo]; born 12 August 1943) is a Belgian actor, best known for his lead role of Tintin in the movies Tintin and the Golden Fleece and Tintin and the Blue Oranges.

Biography

During his adolescence, Talbot was first noted for his physical resemblance to that of Tintin while instructing sports for the summer camp Groupe des Dauphins on a beach in Ostend.[1] He was introduced to Hergé who sympathized with him immediately. Talbot played the comic character Tintin in the two Tintin live action films, Tintin and the Golden Fleece (Tintin et le mystère de la Toison d'or) (directed by Jean-Jacques Vierne in 1960) and Tintin and the Blue Oranges (Tintin et les Oranges Bleues) (directed by Philip Condroyer in 1964).[2] In 1967, a third movie was scheduled but then cancelled.

Talbot chose not to pursue a career in acting, instead to becoming a teacher in his hometown of Spa, Belgium.[3] After teaching for 15 years, Talbot retired as director from the Ecole Libre Roi Baudouin Free School. He currently resides in Spa, Belgium. Jean-Pierre Talbot is passionate about tennis, skiing and is a black belt in Judo. He is married with one daughter and 3 grandchildren.

In 2007 he appeared in a RTBF documentary, Quelque chose en nous... de Tintin, marking Hergé's centenary. His autobiography, J'étais Tintin au cinéma (Editions Jourdan, 2007, ISBN 978-2-9600741-0-9) has received the Press Prize at the Prix Saint-Michel 2008 in Brussels.[4]

In 2011, Talbot appeared in a music video for the song "Caroline Baldwin" performed by the band Feel the Noïzz. In the video, Talbot plays Frank White, an astronaut returning from space. A single shot in the video pays homage to his famous portrayal of the character Tintin.
